My F-150 Won't Crank - The Starter Won't Turn The Engine Over!

Author: Tommy Sessions

"What is wrong with this Ford pickup that it won't crank?"

Is that the question that keeps running through your mind as you make your way through the traffic on your way to work...trying to keep it running cause you know it won't crank if it dies.

Now you wish you had installed that fuel filter the repair shop recommended last week.

The other morning the starter just 'clicked'.

Your neighbor yelled at you from the fence where he was working in his flower bed.

"You need a starter solenoid...mine done that awhile back."

So you stopped at the parts store and bought one that morning.

Since it is located on the passenger side inner fender, under the hood, you were able to put it on in the parking lot...but it didn't help!

Bill came over and saw what was happening and told you it was the starter...his did that last week and he had to replace the starter.

He helps you crank it and you stop at the repair shop on your way home and tell them to put you on a new starter.

When you turned the key to crank it, after paying that outrageous ticket, the starter just "clicked."

The shop owner was busy and really didn't have time to check it out...but, you told him to put a starter on it, so he did.

What on earth could be wrong?

You know it's not the battery...the lights all work, the horn makes a sound, the wipers work...so what's left?

The owner of the shop brings a battery over and installs it.

You turn the ignition switch to start

The engine whirls over and starts purrin' like a mountain lion then you shut it down and told him to put the fuel filter on.

Why did I write something like this?

You'd be surprised at the people that will replace parts before they check out the problem.
