Elements of Successful Presentations

Author: Dorian J

Although, as you will appreciate, all audio visual presentations are different in
size, complexity and scope, they also share many common elements.

When planning an audio visual presentation there are four key elements to be considered.

The Audience you plan to deliver your message to.

The Message you want to deliver.

The Method of delivery.

And last, but not least;

The Reaction you hope to produce with your audience.

All four elements are interrelated, and mutually supporting.

Effective presentations rely on understanding your audience; Formulating a
coherent message; Delivering the message via an appropriate method; and
stimulating a positive reaction.

When I plan and execute presentations for my clients I work very closely with them to understand the audience, (sales people, customers, vendors, members of a trade or association etc).

Secondly, I provide advice and guidance in the formulation of the precise message my clients wish to deliver. This is the core creative process, and may result in the development of a number of ideas, and different approaches, for the client to consider.

When the message has been clarified we can move on to determining the method of delivery.

This could be anything from a simple flipchart or PowerPoint presentation, (to a small or medium sized group); or it might take the form of an informational
DVD or Video program, (to a larger audience); and it might even result in a Keynote Address at a major convention

The most important consideration is to maintain the integrity of the message(s) being delivered, (which may not necessarily involve elaborate or expensive techniques or technologies).

Finally, of course, clients really pay for the positive reaction to the delivery of their 'take home' message. All the time, money, resources and effort devoted to the presentation(s) is only validated if the audience reacts
favorably.

When a positive audience response is translated into;

? Increased sales.
? Higher levels of motivation.
? Greater awareness of an issue, (or a range of issues).
? Increased membership of your particular organization. Or other tangible benefits,

then your presentation will be judged a success!
