How Would John Wooden Run an Online Business?

Author: Ken Acree

For those of you who were born yesterday, John Wooden is the legendary former coach of the UCLA Bruins college basketball team. During a twelve season stretch between 1964 and 1975, Woodens teams were winners of a remarkable ten National Championships.

Now, I dont know John Wooden personally, and Ive never been in business with him. But I know enough about the way that he coached the game of basketball to have a pretty good idea of the principles that he would have adhered to in the business world. Im going to discuss one of those principles, and show you how following Coach Woodens timeless advice can make you a better online entrepreneur.

Find Something That Works and Stick With It

There is a story told that in one particular game, on six or seven consecutive trips down the court, Coach Wooden had drawn up a play to throw the ball into All-American center Bill Walton. Each time, Walton promptly turned and flicked the ball into the basket for two points. During the next break in action, one of UCLAs guards implored Coach Wooden to run a different play. The coachs response was right on the money: Why would we run something different when that play is working every time?

In your online career do you ever find yourself jumping from opportunity to opportunity without ever gaining a solid footing in any of them? Or even worse, have you ever made a little bit of money with a program, but quit on it because your earnings seemed too small? If youre like me, the answer is yes on both counts. And Im convinced that is the biggest difference between success and failure.

To be a success, you need to find something that works, even if it just works a little bit, and milk it for all its worth. What if you could come up with an online marketing campaign that could generate just one sale per day at a profit of $10? What if you could automate this process so that you made this $10 per day, every day, all year long? How does an extra $300 per month sound?

OK. Using the technique that you employed to create your first $300 per month income stream, isnt it possible that you could create another income stream just like it with a new idea? How many ideas can you come up with that could each generate $10 per day? Could you come up with ten ideas per year if you really set your mind to it? If you could, you would generate a passive monthly income for yourself of $3,000 within one year.

Most people would agree that it is EASY to come up with a way to make 1,2, or 3 sales to earn $10, $20, or $30. The trouble is, most of us stop right there. We need to realize that with a little effort and attention to detail, it is possible to turn those few occasional sales into a multitude of sales day after day, forever and ever until the end of time. It really is just a matter of finding something that works and sticking with it.
