Debt Help Resources for Everyone

Author: Eriani Doyel

If you are in serious financial trouble, you may be looking for debt help. Financial worries can cause divorces, health concerns and many other problems if they are not dealt with in the proper way. You can get debt help, but you have to know the right places to look and the best way to go about it. Some of the options are better than others and some should only be used as a last resort.

Many people turn to family or friends for debt help when they are experiencing financial problems. This is not a bad idea, but it can backfire. If you have to go to family or friends to ask for money or financial advice be prepared to have the answer be no and do not let it offend you. They have their reasons and you need to respect that. If they do lend you money and give you debt help, make sure that they understand your plans for repayment and write them down for them and sign the paper. Then, repay them as promised.

Try to work with the businesses and organizations that you owe money to for debt help. They do not want you to default on your payments and they dont want to have to use a collection agency or take you to court unless it is completely necessary for them to be paid for their products or services. Ask them if you can work out a debt help payment plan that would better fit your ability to pay at this time. Do not ask them to drop the bill even though they may decide to do that or they may decide to forgive or delay payments.

You can also get debt help through consumer credit counseling or debt management services. Just make sure that it is a legitimate company. They should not ask for money up front and they should not promise you that you will have a clean credit record. This can only be accomplished over time and good payment history.

Bankruptcy really is a last ditch resort. It will ruin your credit for years and years and it will make you unable to get loans or other financial products for a long time. This should only be used when there is no other alternative.

This is just a partial list of things you can do to help yourself get out of debt. You can look online to find many more options.
