Well what if government was forced to practice the same level of integrity and observance of the law as those businesses that they regulate? What if Sarbanes Oxley transparency were a universal theme in the public sector like it has become in the private sector? What if there were laws, which put bureaucrats in jail for failure to provide accurate accounting, submit forms to the GAO on time and generally follow their own rule of law? What if we started imprisoning lying, cheating and manipulating agency heads and regulators who failed to perform up to the same level forced onto the business community? What if it citizens could sue the government agency which embellished their abilities, cooked the budget or self aggrandized for promotion or a larger next years budget? What if we had a small government, more beholden to the taxpayer and transparent in every regard, while doing actually did what they said they were going to do? What if it were so? What if government could actually do one thing right, which did not take years of committee meetings and millions of dollars? Imagine just what if? And what if no one ever asked these questions and we all settled for a world full of such baloney? Think on it, maybe you might find the answers we seek.
