Recycle Your Old Electronics Items

Author: Ian Cunningham

Everyone has a computer, cell phone, television and plenty of other electronic items - yet what happens when they are a few years old? We often simply throw them away!

Many of these items contain hazardous materials and chemicals which can cause harm if simply discarded in the trash. Batteries, PCB's, and CRT monitors all contain things which should be disposed of properly.

Around 40 million computers are discarded each year in the US alone, causing massive disposal problems. Instead, try donating your old PC equipment to local schools that may be able to benefit from your unused items. Other non-profit and charitable organisations may benefit greatly from your cast-offs!

It may not be law (yet!) to recycle your goods, but why not make a head start and see if you can find a better home for your electronics goods? Many people could do with a TV or phone which you may simply throw away, never to be seen again. You may even make a penny or two in the process!

If your goods are simply too old or faulty, consider disposing of them properly. There are many companies in each state which will deal with the correct disposal of your electronic goods, leaving you safe in the knowledge that you aren't leaving a trail of hazardous material.
