In the future mankind may need to be able to break up Comets, Asteroids and Meteors that are headed for Earth. In doing so we may need to further insure that we are able to use abatement procedures to further break down the size of the larger comet fragments to protect human civilizations. But how can we do this safely?

I propose that we use tubular satellites above the poles on earth, which will have huge tethers spreading out some 50 miles each. These tethers will collect the electromagnetic energy which flows off the poles over earth and this energy would be used to fire up lasers mounted in side the tubular satellite body, which would be delete and fire on any possible fragments from any other comets, asteroids or meteors that we believed might hit earth and cause severe damage to any human populations.

Some may call this idea science-fiction fantasy, however there is no reason why this could not work and considering that we have another near earth objects which will be approaching the earth around 2036, we do have time to build such a device which would act as a shield, similar to Anti ICBM defense shield.

Of course this particular device and innovation would also have military applications in policing the world or even perhaps applications for charging up satellites, lunar colonies, international space stations or ground energy transfer facilities. Consider this in 2006.
